A Message From Mr Williams

Dear parents, carers, students, and staff.

Can I begin by offering a huge thanks for all of the support you have all offered the school over the past term. It has been a busy term, one that has been filled with surprises. More about those in few moments, firstly an update with regards to Mr Powell and his recovery.

You may recall that I informed you in late January & early February that Mr Powell had an accident on his road cycling bike whilst out in the Cotswold country lanes. No one else was involved in the incident, but because of the fall Mr Powell did suffer a nasty injury to his pelvis. A short stay in hospital in Bristol and 2 operations soon led him onto a path of recovery, one that he is making excellent progress with and one he fully intends to complete. He has asked me to pass on thanks for all the kind messages, cards, and gifts he has received, he will be back with us at Nunnery at some point, hopefully early, in the summer term. I have been in regular contact with him and can confirm that he is in very good spirits and has Nunnery at the forefront of his thoughts.

Since the February half term, a lot has happened at Nunnery, students in Year 11 have completed another gruelling round of mock examinations and have completed NEA tasks. They are now preparing for external examinations in May and June – we wish them all the best of luck.  We have seen excellent performances from our sports team in football, netball, badminton, and many other sports. Some of our students have had the opportunity to meet with our local MP, Robin Walker, and have shared their thoughts on sustainability and global climate change.

Our extra-curricular activities continue to thrive with an unprecedented number of clubs being offered and record numbers of students at- tending them. Dance and Drama students have performed to a live audience in recent weeks, the first such performance since the COVID pandemic hit. Many students have made the most of the opportunities staff have planned for them to participate in off-site trips and visits. Students visited the Knife Angel and Magistrate Court with Ms Budge; others have been on Duke of Edinburgh walks and expeditions with Ms Humphries and Ms Bennett.

You will be aware that in early March we welcomed a visit from Ofsted into the school over 2 days. We were joined by 1 lead inspector and 4 other Ofsted inspectors. Over the course of the 2 days, they witnessed Nunnery Wood in full action and were impressed with the curriculum on offer, behaviour of students and care the school offers all. The Ofsted summary report will be available very soon, when published it will be shared with all.

Finally, can I take this opportunity to wish you all a restful and peaceful Easter break. We look forward to seeing all students back in school on Monday 25th April.

T. Williams
