Science Week 2022

THE theme of British Science Week this year was GROWTH. All students got to experience lessons related to this topic and there were lots of competitions and activities to get involved with.

Year 7s explored population growth and how we might feed and house the 9 billion people that are projected to be living on Earth by the year 2050. Year 8 students focussed on designing and building an eco farm, whilst Year 9 students explored the development of new medicines and vaccines.

In addition to this, former student Catherine Regan, returned to school to deliver assemblies. Catherine is currently a Phd Student at the University of Central London. She is currently involved in a project to develop cutting edge space research and technology that has visited Venus, Mars and Saturn. Catherine is one of the creators of the Eyes on Mars Project. After leaving Nunnery Wood, she studied environmental geophysics before moving to the Mullard Space Science laboratory. She wanted to encourage students to pursue careers in STEM subjects and delivered fascinating assemblies explaining what she does and how she progressed from school to her current role. The students found it fascinating and felt inspired to pursue STEM careers.
