Fencing Nationals

YEAR 7 student Lucas Halford recently qualified for two under 12s fencing nationals, representing the West Midlands. On the 30th of January 2022, he fought in his first epee competition – he placed first and won a gold medal. Then, on the 13th of February, he fought in the foil competition and placed third.

Lucas started his fencing career at age 7, in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. He was a member at AERJ Fencing club with his sister. Lucas won many competitions in his own categories and sometimes competed with older age groups, too. In 2019 he placed second at the Under12s International Competition, in Porto Alegre.

He is now training at Evesham Fencing Club, in preparation for the May Nationals – “I’m really excited, and I hope I do well :)” he says.
