IT seems like every year there is a new actor to take on the role of batman, and this year, the titular character in this film is played by Robert Pattinson, famous for the twilight franchise. This movie had been highly awaited ever since its announcement in 2019 and with it being directed by Matt Reeves (“Dawn” and “War” “of the planet of the apes” director), the excitement has only grown from there. When the trailer initially dropped, many were going as far as to saying that this film would be the best Batman movie, with its incredible visuals and camera shots and would be better than the highly acclaimed film “The Dark Knight”. Was this true?
In my opinion it is. This film, is the best-looking superhero movie ever made. It is so visually stunning, and shot so immensely well, that you can’t help but be in awe at what you are looking at on the screen. The cinematography is fantastic, and further cements your belief in the world of Batman. You are immediately brought into the grimy, crime-ridden, fictional city of Gotham, which is illuminated by neon and night club strobe lights. Not only is the world well established, but so are the characters, including Batman himself, The Riddler, Catwoman and many others.
The problem with many Batman movies in the past has been that they struggle to make Batman a convincing character. However, in this movie Batman is a very well-grounded character that is clearly broken by the death of his parents, and uses this to fight crime. In this movie, Batman is essentially a tank, his suit is so armoured that it can stop bullets while he walks, which makes him a very intimidating character, which should be an essential part of the character of Batman, however this is something that previous versions lack.
Something else that this movie achieves that other Batmen movies don’t, is the fact that this film is a detective movie, and notably in the comics, Batman is a detective, despite previous Batman movies not acknowledging this. This film cleverly builds an intriguing plot which leaves you guessing what The Riddler has planned and the trauma, he will put Batman through.
In conclusion, If you can, you should definitely check this movie out, as it is truly unique in the superhero movie genre, and stands out from most movies today. It is not only a good comic book movie, but a good movie in general, and makes other films from the past fail in comparison.
