AS part of Nunnery’s Word Book Day celebrations a group of Year 7 & 8 students took part in an inter-school book quiz hosted by the Worcestershire Children’s Book group. Students read a selection of books in the weeks leading up to World Book Day, to prepare for the questions set by the Quizmaster Mrs Dawn Woods from the Schools Library Association. Despite the quiz taking place via Zoom, tension, inter-school rivalry and excitement filled the Library. The members of both Nunnery teams worked well together and finished 3rd and 6th overall. Everyone really enjoyed the morning and students were asked what they thought:

“The World Book Day quiz took place in the Library at Nunnery Wood High School in March 2022 It was against 9 other teams.
I really enjoyed the World Book Day quiz as we came up against other schools like: Christopher Whitehead, Hanley Castle and more.
The bit I enjoyed the most was the quiz as it was fun, competitive, and exciting knowing that there would be the prize for winners, but my team only came 3rd, for which I am still very proud.”
I had to do a lot to preparation for this quiz as I knew it was going to be tricky, so I read: Black Brother, Black Brother, which was an enjoyable book about a boy who was getting in trouble for stuff he did not do. He was blamed a lot because of his race. The boy wanted to fence against someone in his school, but he was not good enough. So, he went to a children’s club that was led by an old Olympic fencer, who was a really good teacher. In the end the boy won the fencing challenge. I really enjoyed this book.

“For the World Book Day quiz, on World Book Day we joined a Zoom call. We competed against other schools and had to answer questions about five books. Of the five books I read one called I am the Minotaur; it is one of the best books I’ve read. I sat down wanting to start it by reading ten pages, but that same night, all at once I finished the book and I didn’t even realise, because I was so hooked on it!
Overall we came 3rd which is really good considering we only had two teams!”

“When I joined Book Club, we were informed that there was to be a virtual book quiz, against many different schools, coming up. After I decided to give it a go, I was given five books – I am the Minotaur, Black Brother, Wink, Skywake and Noor Un Nissan Inayat Kahn- to read until the day of the quiz. There was to be a round on each book and then one on the authors. On the day we joined the virtual quiz via Zoom. There was a lot of competition and
our teams Nunnery one and two finished 3rd and 6th. It was a great experience and I do hope something like this happens again. I would also recommend the books we read they were amazing!”
